We’re on the second day of the YONEX Dutch Open 2022 and players have been fighting for a place in the second round.

Starting in the beginning of the day, with the expected women’s single match, Lianne Tan, Belgium against Jordan Hart, Wales, the win was clear for the dominant Belgium player with a victory of 21-12 21-8.

Polina Buhrova, who last week played in the Bulgarian International Championship and was one of the only two Europeans making their way to the podium, faced Clara Lassaux from Belgium, winning 21-17, 21-10. “My performance today was good, I’m happy. I was a little bit nervous, because I know this hall and the first time was complicated to control the shuttle”, says the Ukrainian player: “But it was a good match, I can control my emotions”.

Spaniard Clara Azurmendi won a three-game match, against the Dane Anne Fuglsang. With an easy win in the last set, Azurmendi scored 21-14, 16-21, 21-8. The Spanish is also playing doubles with her partner Beatriz Corrales, against Eleanor O’Donnell from Scotland and Lizzie Tolman, from England.

Mads Christophersen, Denmark, faced Malaysian player, Yeoh Seng Zoe, winner of the Austrian Open 2022, where he also played against a Dane in the final. This time, the Malaysian player couldn’t beat Christophersen, who won 21-19 21-16.

In men’s singles Christo Popov, representing France and Victor Svendsen from Denmark, played a powerful and intense match. In this very much wanted two-game match, Popov won 21-19 21-19, making his way to the second round.

Mark Caljouw, Netherlands, faced Tobias Kuenzi, Switzerland, in a tough first game, where Kuenzi lost by a two-difference points of 24-26. In the second game Caljouw wins 21-12: “I’m quite happy to win. It was a little bit tricky. I think there was a little bit of drift, but I’m happy to manage to win in straight games”. The Dutch player also mentions the pressure that comes with playing on home soil, but looks forward to the next few days.

The pair Callum Hemming and Ethan Van Leeuwen from England also had their take in today’s round of 32 and faced Irish duo Joshua Magee and Paul Reynolds, in one of the most admired doubles matches of the day. The English men’s doubles didn’t fail to win 21-17 21-18 and conquered a place in tomorrow’s eightfinals.
