From 5 to 8 March, the 50th Portuguese International Championships will be held in the High Performance Center in Caldas da Rainha.

The Portuguese Badminton Federation is the organizer of this International Series event. 220 players from 30 nations will take part.

Top seed in the men’s singles is number 48 of the current BWF world rankings, Kazumasa Sakai of Japan. Erik Mejis (The Netherlands), Maxime Moreels (Belgium)and Beryno Jiann Tze Wong (Malaysia) are also seeded and looking for an opportunity to shine in Portugal. The local Portuguese player Pedro Martins, who needs to start in the qualification stage, is also ready to create a surprise.
In the women’s singles, Sayaka Takahashi of Japan, the number 15 in BWF World Ranking is the main favorite. Denmark’s Sandra-Maria Jensen (pictured) is the second seed and is defending the title from last year’s edition.

In men´s doubles, the Scottish duo of Martin Campbell and Patrick Machugh  and the Croatians Zvonimir Durkinjak Scotland and Zvonimir Hoelbing are the favorites to take the title.

In women’s doubles, the Japanese Ayane Kurihara and Naru Shinoya are the main favorites to win the event. Roman Zirnwald and Elisabeth Baldauf from Austria are top seeds in mixed doubles are looking to repeat their victory form last year’s edition.
