Men’s Singles seventh seed Bai Yupeng of China crashed out in the second round of the LI-NING BWF World Junior Championships 2018 today in Markham, Canada.

The Chinese won the first game quite easily against Korea’s Park Hyeon Seung (featured image) but was outplayed in the next two and went down 8-21 21-16 21-13.

France’s Arnaud Merkle also made his way into the third round with a close win over Japan’s Taiki Kato.

Merkle, who sensationally beat top seed Kunlavut Vitidsarn in the quarterfinals of the Youth Olympic Games, edged Kato 21-19 21-18 and will face Indonesia’s Christian Adinata next.

Vitidsarn too eased himself into round three, past Germany’s Brian Holtschke 21-12 21-10. The Thai might have a tougher fight on his hands in the next round as he takes on China’s Liu Liang.

Other third round matches will feature India’s Lakshya Sen against Italy’s Giovanni Toti, ninth seed Chen Shiau Cheng (Chinese Taipei) against Indonesia’s Karono Karono, and Canada’s Brian Yang against Japan’s Riku Hatano.

Among the seeded casualties was No.11 seed Belgium’s Julien Carraggi, who was beaten 21-15 21-18 by Thailand’s Setthanan Piyawatcharavijit.

Second seed Ikhsan Leonardo Rumbay (Indonesia) and Youth Olympic Games champion Li Shifeng (China) had it easy with straight games victories.

In Women’s Singles, No.11 seed Reka Madarsz (Hungary) was outclassed by Indonesia’s Yasnita Enggira Setiawan, who next faces Denmark’s Amalie Schulz.

No.13 seed Line Christophersen (Denmark) overcame a difficult challenger in Japan’s Miyu Takahashi, 23-21 21-18, proceeding to a third round clash with Sweden’s Ashwathi Pillai. Other matches in the quarter will see China’s Han Qianxi – a narrow 15-21 21-11 21-19 winner over India’s Gayatri Gopichand Pullela – against No.2 seed Phittayaporn Chaiwan (Thailand); Malaysia’s Eoon Qi Xuan against India’s Purva Barve, and Canada’s Talia Ng against Indonesia’s Putri Kusuma Wardani.

Men’s Doubles second seeds Ghifari Anandaffa Prihardika and Pramudya Kusumawardana Riyanto were bounced out by their compatriots.

The second seeds lost a close first game but came back strongly in the second, only to falter once again in the decider as they bowed out to Dwiki Rafian Restu/Bernardus Bagas Kusuma Wardana, 21-19 16-21 21-13.
